An independent charity supporting the local community

SWR Mind were founded in 1962 and are an independent registered charity. We support the local community throughout Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale and the Esk Valley from Staithes in the North to Helmsley in the West, and down to the City of York and East Riding boundaries in the south.

We are affiliated to the Mind network which means we work in partnership with National Mind, but we are run independently by and for local people.

Our funding comes mostly from foundations and trusts who we apply to for funding for specific projects. This means that our services do change over time as the needs of our community change. It also means we can’t always offer exactly the support you may be looking for, but we will do our best to find the right help for you if it isn’t from SWR Mind.

Through the Voluntary Sector Leaders Network, we work closely with many other local charities and community groups which means we have regularly updated information about what is available across our district.
