‘Our Neighbourhood’ is a dynamic and evolving partnership between three locally based charities, SWR Mind, Carers Plus Yorkshire and CAVCA; joining forces to bring something fresh to Scarborough central. Our Neighbourhood has been designed to:
• Help prevent, reduce or delay people’s need for statutory social care
• Build resilience of both our communities and residents so that people can live the life they want, where they want, supported by the resources available in their own community
• Build communities, places and spaces which offer people somewhere or someone to turn to when they are facing difficult times, and to support them find solutions to their challenges
As the co-ordinator at Mind, you’ll have two main roles which include co-ordinating the befriending service, matching up people who are isolated with befrienders and providing light touch oversight and supervision. You will take responsibility for recruiting and training befriending volunteers and providing any support they need to enjoy the role. You will also offer volunteer brokerage appointments to people who are keen on volunteering but need support to find the right role for them. This role is flexible and adaptable and we welcome any new ideas and initiatives to combat isolation, for example, the current co-ordinator launched a series of poetry workshops, now run by a volunteer where people get together, read and analyse (and occasionally write) poetry.
