MindSide - Lived Experience Support Worker (Scarborough, Filey & Surrounding Villages)

Job title: MindSide Lived Experience Support Worker
Hours: 18.5 hours available, delivery will take place between 8am and 8pm so there is expectation of some evening working but hours are flexible
Status: 3 Year Fixed term contract
Base: Scarborough Office with outreach into Scarborough and Filey Community
Salary: £24,375 (to pro-rata)
Probation : All roles are subject to a 3-month probationary period
Requirements: DBS check, driving license and access to a car

Our MindSide support workers will be providing community-based support to people with mental health problems in order that: they can become more equal, active, safe and independent, and to support them to tackle the issues in their lives that may be obstructing good mental health and wellbeing. As part of the team you’ll be delivering 2 strands of work:

One to one outreach (up to 16 sessions) providing support that helps people Better manage mental health; Lead independent, rewarding lives; Become included/active in community/meaningful activities; Reach their potential – living life in the way they want and need.

Delivering a programme of mental health support groups, workshops and psychoeducation sessions, built up through exploring the ongoing needs of the client cohort. This will include regular support groups such as bereavement, parent/carer support (further to be determined) and one off or short programmes around key issues such as managing anger, writing for wellbeing. All staff within the project will take responsibility for running groups and workshops. Groups will be supported by a small team of volunteers, to be recruited and trained by the project team.

Our Neighbourhood Co-ordinator (Scarborough and Surrounding Villages)

Job title: Our Neighbourhood Co-ordinator – Scarborough Town
Hours: 18.5 hours per week. All roles can be carried out Monday-Friday 8am to 8pm (Flexible working) Occasional Weekends
Responsible to: Service Manager
Status: Fixed term contract to 31/3/2026
Base: Community
Salary: £24,000 pro rata
Probation All roles are subject to a 3-month probationary period

‘Our Neighbourhood’ is a dynamic and evolving partnership between three locally based charities, SWR Mind, Carers Plus Yorkshire and CAVCA;  joining forces to bring something fresh to Scarborough central. Our Neighbourhood has been designed to:

• Help prevent, reduce or delay people’s need for statutory social care
• Build resilience of both our communities and residents so that people can live the life they want, where they want, supported by the resources available in their own community
• Build communities, places and spaces which offer people somewhere or someone to turn to when they are facing difficult times, and to support them find solutions to their challenges

As the co-ordinator at Mind, you’ll have two main roles which include co-ordinating the befriending service, matching up people who are isolated with befrienders and providing light touch oversight and supervision. You will take responsibility for recruiting and training befriending volunteers and providing any support they need to enjoy the role. You will also offer volunteer brokerage appointments to people who are keen on volunteering but need support to find the right role for them. This role is flexible and adaptable and we welcome any new ideas and initiatives to combat isolation, for example, the current co-ordinator launched a series of poetry workshops, now run by a volunteer where people get together, read and analyse (and occasionally write) poetry.
